Our Methodology

How we source rates, evaluate providers, and maintain editorial independence so you can trust our comparisons.

How We Source Exchange Rates

MoneyWiki.ai fetches live exchange rates directly from provider APIs to ensure accuracy. Our primary data source is the Wise (TransferWise) API, which provides mid-market indicative rates for all currency pairs we track.

Rates are refreshed automatically throughout the day. Each rate entry in our database includes a timestamp so you always know when the data was last updated. We retain historical rate data to enable trend analysis and to ensure transparency in how rates change over time.

For providers that do not offer a public API (such as traditional exchange houses), we display the most recently available rate and clearly indicate when it was last updated. We never fabricate or estimate rates — if we can't verify a rate from an official source, we don't display it.

How We Rate Providers

Every provider on MoneyWiki.ai is evaluated across five dimensions, each scored from 0 to 5:

  • Exchange Rate (Rate): How close the provider's rate is to the mid-market rate. Providers offering rates within 0.5% of mid-market score highest.
  • Fees: Total cost of a transfer including fixed fees and any hidden margins. Zero-fee providers with low margins score highest.
  • Speed: How quickly funds reach the recipient. Same-day and instant transfers score highest.
  • Customer Support: Quality and availability of support channels, response times, and user satisfaction based on public reviews.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Licensing status, regulatory body oversight, and consumer protection measures. Providers regulated by multiple reputable bodies (FCA, FinCEN, DFSA) score highest.

The overall rating is the simple average of these five dimensions. We update ratings periodically as providers change their offerings, and we disclose any rating methodology changes transparently.

Comparison Methodology

When we compare providers side by side, we use a standardized benchmark: a 1,000 unit transfer in the source currency. This allows for a fair, apples-to-apples comparison of the total amount received by the recipient after all fees and exchange rate margins are applied.

Our comparison tables are sorted by amount received by default — the metric that matters most to senders. This ensures the provider offering the best value appears at the top, regardless of whether they achieve this through better rates, lower fees, or a combination of both.

Our Affiliate Model

MoneyWiki.ai earns revenue through affiliate partnerships with some of the providers we list. When you click a link to a provider and complete a transaction, we may receive a referral commission. This is how we fund our operations and keep our content free for users.

What this means for you:

  • We clearly label affiliate links throughout the site
  • Our rate rankings are determined purely by the data — the provider with the best rate appears first, regardless of affiliate status
  • We list non-affiliate providers alongside affiliate partners with equal prominence
  • Affiliate partnerships never influence our editorial ratings, reviews, or recommendations
  • We disclose our affiliate relationships in a banner on every comparison page

Editorial Independence

Our editorial team operates independently from our business development and partnerships team. This separation ensures that:

  • No provider can pay for a higher ranking — our rate tables are sorted by data, not by commercial relationships
  • Reviews are honest — we list pros and cons for every provider, including our affiliate partners
  • Content is expert-reviewed — our guides are written and reviewed by qualified financial professionals with relevant credentials
  • Corrections are transparent — if we make an error, we correct it promptly and note the change

Every article and guide on MoneyWiki.ai includes an author byline with their credentials, so you can verify the expertise behind our content. We believe this transparency is essential for financial content, especially content that falls under Google's Your Money or Your Life (YMYL) guidelines.

Data Freshness & Limitations

While we strive to provide the most up-to-date rates possible, there are inherent limitations:

  • Exchange rates fluctuate throughout the day — the rate you see on MoneyWiki.ai may differ slightly from the rate at the time of your transfer
  • Provider fees may vary based on payment method, transfer amount, or recipient country
  • Promotional rates or first-time user discounts may not be reflected in our standard comparisons
  • Some providers update their rates less frequently than others

We always recommend confirming the exact rate and fee with your chosen provider before initiating a transfer. Our comparisons are designed to help you identify the best options, not to replace the provider's own pricing page.
